About Pomona College

Pomona College is a private, residential, liberal arts college located in Claremont, which is a college town in eastern Los Angeles County, in the US state of California, with a population estimated at a number of more than 37 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census. According to CNN/Money magazine, Claremont is the 5th best place to live in the US, being the highest rated place in the state.

Pomona was established in October, 1887, as a coeducational institution, being originally formed in Pomona, but it was moved to its present location, in Claremont, in 1889, one year after classes first began, in a rented house. It currently offers its students, who number approximately 1550 (undergraduates), various educational programs, in numerous fields of study, including majors and minors, in areas such as art, biology, chemistry, music and other.

Athletics

Pomona's sports teams call themselves the Sagehens, and they compete in NCAA Division III, in conjunction with Pitzer College, in 10 men's sports and 11 women's sports, which include baseball, basketball, tennis, track & field and water polo.
